Frikšn bar #11 | 'Pripovedi divjine'

*

The upcoming Freaktion Bar session will touch upon themes connected to Špela Petrič’s latest project titled “Deep Phytocracy: Feral Songs” – a participatory fabulative expedition into (urban) nature, which invites us to enter the multiplicity of relations with the vegetal other by the use of function-bending hybrid tools created precisely for this purpose. Throughout her practice, Špela has been addressing our often-sidelined concern for plants and nature as such (whatever that may mean). The topic is complex but carries grave importance at a time of climate and social instability. We’ll be discussing the specificities of environmental governance in Slovenia and will address topics such as nature conservation, farming and logging, the urban and rural gaze, the traditional view on nature and its romanticization, plants as national myths and symbols, green tourism, global nature and biodiversity.

Opinions will be clashing between artist Špela Petrič, professor of social anthropology dr. Bojan Baskar and nature conservationist Tina Trampuš..

[FREAKTION BAR]
Certain topics are so complicated and difficult that they are almost impossible to discuss despite their fatal importance. Some things cannot be captured with our perception and we still haven't found the right words to describe certain phenomena. We can think about them, but we cannot name them yet. Artists and scientists are often walking into the unknown and trying to reach beyond the borders of possible. Alone, before any of us will follow.

In the club atmosphere at Kersnikova, in a series of informal discussions organized by Kapelica, Rampa and BioTehna, we will meet with extraordinary individuals whose research leads them on the edge of art, science and available technology. We will discuss their work in progress and their disturbing findings. We will tackle the topics that are not for anyone's ears.
