Jelena Viskovic / Volumni: Novi Babilon
Spopadajoč se z nezadostno in šibko resničnostjo se mlada protagonistka poda na potovanje po Novem Babilonu, sanjski pokrajini, ki temelji na situacionistični heterotopiji nizozemskega umetnika Constanta Niewenhuysa. Ujeta med nasprotujoče si glasove, ki razlagajo to megastrukturo, jo poskuša razumeti v smislu skupnega prostora, mita in utelešenja.
Z uporabo digitalnih orodij za oblikovanje virtualnih svetov in prototipov se instalacija »Volumni: Novi Babilon« vrača k idejam, ki so bile podlaga Constantovega avantgardnega dela, ter jih naslovi v kontekstu metaverzumov, »worldbuilding« platform in interneta 3.0, da bi odprla premislek o (digitalni) infrastrukturi kot prostoru, ki ga je mogoče oblikovati in prilagajati. Poleg tega instalacija reinterpretira avantgardno estetiko in filozofijo 60ih in 70ih let iz feministične, migrantske in umeščene perspektive, ki v Constantovo idejo ustvarjalnih subjektov kot igralcev/državljanov vključi tudi ekosisteme in jo tako na novo premisli v odnosu do nečloveških okolij in akterjev, ki so običajno izpuščeni iz modernističnih projektov gradnje svetov in urbanističnih utopij.

Jelena Viskovic
Jelena Viskovic is an artist and software developer. She combines sculpture and game design methods to enable conversations about complex narratives around technology. In her research and work she responds to new and archaic technologies, social organizational platforms, and public spaces. She often appropriates historical artifacts, or technologies as if they were games that can be seen as a process, an interactive space, with a playable mechanic that can be tinkered with and modded. Jelena Viskovic’s work has been commissioned by institutions such as the V&A, Rhizome, Transmediale, The New Institute. She is currently based in the UK and is a lecturer in game design at UCL: Communications, Culture and Media department. She also exhibited at 34th Ljubljana Graphic Biennale – ISKRA DELTA in 2021.
